Both are solid choices
Hikvision and CP Plus are the two names you will see on most CCTV systems in India, and we install both. Neither is a bad choice when the right model is chosen for the job and installed properly. The differences are in range, features and where each brand is strongest.
The companies
- CP Plus is an Indian brand owned by Aditya Infotech, headquartered in Noida and listed on the NSE since August 2025. It manufactures in India, including a large plant at Kadapa in Andhra Pradesh.
- Hikvision is one of the world’s largest security-camera manufacturers, headquartered in China. In India it operates through Prama Hikvision India, a joint venture with a manufacturing facility at Vasai near Mumbai.
- By sales, CP Plus leads the Indian market. Research firm Counterpoint, reported by Reuters in May 2025, estimated CP Plus at about 48% of India’s surveillance-camera market and Hikvision and Dahua together at about 30%.
How they compare
| Hikvision | CP Plus | |
|---|---|---|
| Range | Very wide — from basic HD cameras to advanced IP, thermal and enterprise systems | Wide — strong in HD analog, IP and Wi-Fi home cameras |
| Smart features | AcuSense human/vehicle detection, ColorVu colour-at-night, deep analytics on higher ranges | Human/vehicle detection and colour night vision on current ranges |
| Large projects | Very strong — big NVRs, VMS software, enterprise options | Good for small to mid-sized projects; enterprise options available |
| Home Wi-Fi cameras | Sold mainly under the sister brand EZVIZ | EzyKam range under the CP Plus name |
| Mobile app | Hik-Connect | ezykam+ (Wi-Fi cameras) and gCMOB (DVR/NVR) |
| Service network | Wide distributor and service network in India | Wide service network across India |
Which we usually recommend
- For new IP (network) camera systems in 2026, certification decides a lot: we quote only models we can confirm are certified for sale, which today often favours Indian-made ranges such as CP Plus.
- Homes and small shops on a budget: either brand’s HD or entry IP range works well.
- Offices, apartments and mid-sized sites: either brand’s IP range with human/vehicle detection.
- Wi-Fi cameras for a few rooms at home: CP Plus EzyKam or EZVIZ are both easy to set up.
- Projects that specify India-made cameras: CP Plus, or PRAMA — an India-made brand from the Prama group.
- Factories, campuses and 64+ camera projects: choose a range with large NVRs and analytics — and confirmed certification for every IP model.
What matters more than the brand
Picture quality on site depends more on the model, lens, placement and lighting than on the logo. A well-placed 2MP camera often beats a badly placed 4MP one. The other factors that decide how happy you will be: a genuine product with warranty, a surveillance-grade hard disk, and — for IP cameras — a model certified under India’s CCTV security requirements. Since 1 April 2026, only network cameras tested by STQC against MeitY’s Essential Requirements can be sold in India, so check the certification of the exact model rather than the brand.
Ask your installer for the exact model numbers in the quote, not just the brand, so you can compare like with like.
