A very large catalogue

Hikvision is one of the world’s largest video surveillance manufacturers, and its catalogue runs to thousands of models. Most of them fit into a handful of families defined by performance tier and by key technology. Understanding the families helps you read a quote, compare it with others, and know whether a model is meant for a home, a shop or a critical site.

Performance tiers

Within each tier, models differ by resolution, lens, body shape, night vision type and AI features.

SeriesPositioningTypical use
Value seriesEntry-level IP cameras with essential featuresHomes, small shops, budget projects
Pro seriesMainstream business cameras with better sensors and AI optionsOffices, retail, apartments, most commercial sites
Ultra seriesHigh-end imaging, advanced analytics, rugged buildsCritical sites, campuses, city projects

NVR families

Hikvision NVRs follow similar tiers. Compact models for 4 to 16 cameras often include built-in PoE ports; mid-range models add more disk bays, higher incoming bandwidth and AcuSense or face analytics; high-end models offer 32 to 64 or more channels, RAID and dual 4K outputs. As with cameras, the model number encodes the series, channel count and features.

Matching a range to your site

  • Home or small shop: Value or entry Pro cameras, ColorVu for gates, an 8-channel NVR with PoE.
  • Office or apartment: Pro series with AcuSense for alerts, WDR models at glass entrances.
  • Factory perimeter: AcuSense or DarkFighter bullets, with PTZ or panoramic cameras for yards.
  • Critical or large sites: Ultra and DeepinView cameras with high-end NVRs or VMS.

The 2026 certification position in India

Since 2024, network cameras sold in India must pass security testing and be registered model by model. No official notice bans any brand, but press reports in April 2026 said network cameras from Chinese manufacturers including Hikvision were in practice not receiving certification. Analog cameras are exempt from the security testing, but SightShield supplies IP cameras only, so we quote only IP models whose certification we can confirm.

Existing Hikvision systems

  • Existing installed systems can continue to be used and maintained.
  • Keep firmware updated and follow the cyber security basics.
  • For expansions, check certification of any new model before buying.
  • Mixed systems are possible through ONVIF, with some limits on AI features.

Reading a Hikvision quote

  • Check the model number against the data sheet for resolution, lens and night vision type.
  • Confirm whether AcuSense or other AI features are on the camera or need an AI NVR.
  • Check the NVR’s channel count, incoming bandwidth and disk bays.
  • Ask for certification of each IP model before ordering.

A note on comparisons

Hikvision’s Indian competitors — CP Plus, PRAMA and Honeywell — offer similar tiers and AI features under their own names. Compare specific models on image quality, analytics, NVR software, warranty, certification and local support rather than family names alone.
