Factory Security Checklist: 20 Points for Industrial Units

A practical checklist for factory owners in Peenya, Bommasandra, Jigani and other industrial areas — perimeter, gate, CCTV, access, fire, people and processes.

Use this list on a walk-around

Print this list and walk your factory with your security supervisor. Mark each point as done, partly done or missing. The missing points are your priority list. It covers the issues we see most often on industrial sites around Bangalore.

Perimeter

  • 1. Boundary wall intact, with no gaps, damaged sections or climbing aids (trees, scrap piles) next to it.
  • 2. Cameras on every wall section, with line-crossing alerts at night.
  • 3. Perimeter and yard lighting working, on timers or sensors.

Gate

  • 4. Gate camera that identifies every driver and person, day and night.
  • 5. Visitor register or visitor management system, with ID checks.
  • 6. Vehicle checks on exit, and a camera that sees the load.
  • 7. Boom barrier or automated gate so the gate is never left open.

Inside the site

  • 8. Cameras on stores, dispatch bays, production lines and the scrap yard.
  • 9. Access control on stores, server room and finished-goods area.
  • 10. Face-recognition attendance for staff and contract labour.
  • 11. Recorder in a locked room with UPS backup and 30–90 days of storage.
  • 12. Cameras on a separate network with changed passwords and current firmware.

Fire and safety

  • 13. Fire alarm system covering production, stores and offices, tested regularly.
  • 14. Clear exits and assembly points; cameras covering exits.
  • 15. Panic buttons or emergency phones at the gate and in remote areas.

People and process

  • 16. Police verification for security guards and key staff.
  • 17. Night patrol routine with checkpoints, verified on camera.
  • 18. Rules on who can view and export CCTV footage.
  • 19. Monthly review of stock losses against camera evidence.
  • 20. AMC for CCTV, alarms and gate automation, so faults are fixed quickly.

Where to start

If you can only fix three things this month, make them: a gate camera that identifies people at night, perimeter alerts, and power backup for the recorder. Those close the gaps behind most of the incidents we are called about.

Scoring your site

Score each of the 20 points, then rank the gaps by the losses they could cause. Most factories find the biggest gains at the gate, the stores and the dispatch area.

Example: scoring a mid-size plant

A precision engineering plant in Bommasandra walked through this checklist with its security supervisor and scored itself. The perimeter scored poorly — a long rear wall shared with an empty plot had no lighting or cameras. The gate scored well on guards but poorly on records: vehicle numbers were written by hand and dispatches were not filmed. Inside, the tool crib had no access control. The plant fixed the rear wall first with lighting and line-crossing cameras, then added a gate camera and dispatch cameras, then face access on the tool crib. Re-scoring after six months showed every section improved.

Night-time weak spots

  • Sections of wall facing vacant land or drains.
  • Scrap yards and waste areas used as cover.
  • Unlit corners behind sheds.
  • Diesel tanks and generator rooms.
  • Security cabins where the guard cannot see the monitor or the gate at the same time.

Quick answers

How often should factory security be reviewed?+

A full walk-around once or twice a year, and after any layout change, incident or new building.

Is a security guard enough for a factory?+

Guards work best with technology: cameras, perimeter alerts and access control let a small team cover a large site.

Do you provide AMC for factory security systems?+

Yes — for CCTV, including systems installed by other companies after an inspection visit.

What is the first thing to fix in factory security?+

Usually the gate: a camera that identifies every person and vehicle day and night, plus a controlled barrier.

Can AI cameras replace night patrols?+

They reduce the area guards must watch and alert them to real intrusions, but someone still needs to respond.

How often should a factory review its security?+

Walk through a checklist at least yearly, and after any incident, expansion or change in shifts.
