A different tier of product
Most CCTV in India is sold by mass-market brands with wide ranges and competitive prices. A smaller enterprise tier serves data centres, airports, multinational offices, pharma plants and critical infrastructure, where buyers pay more for long product lifecycles, cyber security documentation, open integration and global support. Bosch, Axis and Hanwha Vision are the names most often specified in these projects.
The three brands
| Brand | Background | Known for |
|---|---|---|
| Bosch (Keenfinity Group) | Bosch sold its security and communications product business to Triton; it operates as Keenfinity Group from July 2025 and keeps the Bosch video lines | Engineering quality, video analytics, integration with intrusion and access |
| Axis Communications | Swedish company, owned by Canon since 2015 | Pioneer of network cameras, open platform, strong cyber security practices |
| Hanwha Vision | Korean company, formerly Hanwha Techwin and earlier Samsung Techwin | Wide enterprise range, AI cameras, strong value in the premium tier |
What you pay extra for
- Long product lifecycles and multi-year firmware support.
- Detailed cyber security documentation, signed firmware and vulnerability disclosure processes.
- Open integration with third-party VMS, access control and analytics.
- Consistent image quality and analytics across large deployments.
- Global warranty and support for multinational clients.
When enterprise brands make sense
- Corporate policy requires a specific approved brand list.
- The site is critical infrastructure, a data centre or a regulated facility.
- You use an open-platform VMS and want best-in-class integration.
- Global clients require consistency with their sites abroad.
Choosing a brand for a 100+ camera site
| Question | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Will the VMS support the brand fully? | Analytics and events must reach the control room |
| How long will the models be sold and supported? | Expansions over years should match |
| Are the models certified for sale in India? | Required for every network camera model |
| What does local support look like? | Spares, RMA times and trained engineers |
| What is the total cost over 5–7 years? | Licences, storage, maintenance, not just cameras |
Cyber security expectations
Enterprise IT and security teams increasingly review cameras like any other network device. They ask for hardening guides, signed firmware, certificate management, secure protocols, vulnerability disclosure and a published support lifecycle. Enterprise brands generally provide this documentation as standard; for any brand, request it before approval so that the cameras pass the client’s IT review.
CCTV cyber security checklist →Mass-market brands at scale
Large sites do not always need enterprise brands. Many factories, campuses and gated communities in India run hundreds of cameras on CP Plus, PRAMA or Honeywell business ranges with their own VMS software or an open-platform VMS. The decision depends on integration needs, policy and budget more than camera count.
Video management software (VMS) →Total cost over the system’s life
- Camera and recorder hardware, including spares for critical points.
- VMS licences per camera and annual support renewals.
- Storage servers and disks sized for retention, with RAID.
- Network switches, fibre and power backup.
- Maintenance contracts and firmware management over 5 to 7 years.
An example
A Bangalore R&D campus of a multinational required cameras from its global approved list and an open-platform VMS already used at its other sites. The design used enterprise cameras at entrances, labs and the data hall, while the perimeter, parking and canteen used a certified made-in-India business range on the same VMS — meeting policy where required and controlling cost elsewhere.
